  • mg/ml to ug/ml dilution

    I have a stock solution of 1mg/mL that i want to dilute to 2ug/ml in 10mL solvent
    How do i do this?

    The math is easier if you use a tad less solvent and make up 10 mL total
    1000 g/mL * x mL = 2 g/mL * 10 mL
    x = 0.02 mL.
    Dilute to 10 mL in volumetric flask

    If you are determined to add it to a pre-measured 10 mL, assuming volumes are additive
    1000 g/mL * x mL = 2 g/mL * (10 mL + x mL)
    x = 20/998 mL = 0.02004 mL

    The distinction is more important when the dilution ratios are smaller. It is largely a pedantic difference in this case.
