My husband asked: If I drove one mile around a piece of propertly how many acres is that equal to ?

How many acres in a mile ??

That would depend on the shape of the area in question. Knowing the perimeter, you'd only be able to calculate the area if it were a perfect square.

For any other shape, you would need more information.

If it was a perfect square, each side would be 1/4 mile.

        1/4 mile = 1320 feet

        1320 feet * 1320 feet = 1742400 square feet

        1742400 square feet = 40 acre

These are 2 different questions. If you drove 1 mile around a property then the perimeter length is 1 mile. In that case it has 40 acres as has already been explained: 1/4 mile square = 40 acres.

Asking how many acres are in a mile, I think most people would take that to mean how many acres are in a square mile. In that case the answer would be 640. A square mile has 16 1/4 mile squares in it, so 16 * 40 = 640 acres

          Or, 5280 feet * 5280 feet = 27,878,400 square feet

          27,878,400 / 43,560 (the square footage in an acre) = 640 acres

There are 640 acres in 1 sq mille, so 864 acres.
