  • Foot pounds to PSI

i have a clamp system to glue up wood, it is 1' by 4' and has 10 clamping bolts. If I tighten each bolt to 25 foot pounds of preasure, what is the PSI?

    Re: Foot pounds to PSI

Hard to say. The axial load in each bolt based on torque is hard to predict. The thread is an "inclined plane" and we would need bolt diameter, thread pitch, and whether it is lubricated or dry to estimate mechanical advantage

The mean pressure is the axial load of the ten bolts divided by the area.
