  • how do I convert pg/mL to ng/dL?

How to calculate a T4:T3 ratio if they are listed in different units? :
    Triiodothyronine,Free,Serum010389: 5.7 (2.0-4.4; pg/mL)
    T4,Free(Direct)019745: 1.36 (0.82-1.77; ng/dL)

One of your threads says, that, in order to convert pg/mL to ng/dL, you multiply by 10, and for ng/dL to pg/mL divide by 10. So, my FT3 would be 5.7 x 10 =57, and the ratio then looks absolutely ridiculous: 1.36/57 (as compared to normal in humans, 93/7, or at least 80/20)! What am I doing wrong?

    You must have gotten that backwards. 5.7 pg/mL x 1 ng/1000 pg x 100 mL/1 dL = 0.57 ng/dL. You need to divide by 10.

Oh thanks! I am so non-mathematically minded! Would you double-check I calculated my numbers correctly? My result is (approximately):
      70.5% (T4)/ 29.5% (T3)

        I get the same ratio.

No idea whether that's good or bad. I just do conversions. No medical knowledge

Thank you for helping me get through the math!

Re: Which is the smaller unit

            1. Is 0.02mg/mL smaller or larger than 2.0 pg/mL
            2. Is 0.02 mg/mL the same as 2ng/mL
            THanks you

              0.02 mg/mL = 20 g/mL = 20 000 ng/mL = 20 000 000 pg/mL
