Dry excavated earth is about 78 pounds/cubic foot. Wet would be about 90 pounds/cubic foot.
1200 cubic yard = 32,400 cubic foot
32400 cubic foot * 78 pounds/cubic foot = 2527200 pounds
32400 cubic foot * 90 pounds/cubic foot = 2916000 pounds
2527200 pounds / 2000 = 1263.6 tons
2916000 pounds / 2000 = 1458 tons
So it will be between 1264 and 1458 U.S. short tons.

Search the above page for "Earth" to find the density of the soil that comes closest. I couldn't find anything for 3 inch stone but see if you can find something similar.
If you let us know the density from that list we can create the conversion for you.
