        Re: Tons to Cubic Feet

Dry excavated earth is about 78 pounds/cubic foot. Wet would be about 90 pounds/cubic foot.

        1200 cubic yard = 32,400 cubic foot

        32400 cubic foot * 78 pounds/cubic foot = 2527200 pounds
        32400 cubic foot * 90 pounds/cubic foot = 2916000 pounds

        2527200 pounds / 2000 = 1263.6 tons
        2916000 pounds / 2000 = 1458 tons

So it will be between 1264 and 1458 U.S. short tons.

I found several entries for the soil, and not sure about the 3 inch stone.

Search the above page for "Earth" to find the density of the soil that comes closest. I couldn't find anything for 3 inch stone but see if you can find something similar.

If you let us know the density from that list we can create the conversion for you.

Depends on the type of stone and the range of stone sizes. A lot of broken stone, roughly uniform in size is around 1.3 ton/ydł, but if there is a large range of sizes, more like mixed sand and gravel, around 1.45 ton/ydł (The smaller pieces fill some of the airspace between larger pieces)
