Help, please!! I am attempting to prepare a recipe for a cake filling that calls for pints of strawberries. We were only able to buy them in pounds. I need to know, how many pounds of strawberries I need if the recipe calls for 6 pints? Thank you!!!!

According to the rec.cooking.faq, strawberries have a density of 3 cups per pound.

    6 pints = 12 cups
    12 cups / 3 = 4 pounds

based on the above formula: 4 pints=9cups
        9/3= 3 pounds

There is a difference between dry and fluid measure. A dry pint is 551 mL. A cup is fluid measure and 236.6 mL, a fluid pint about 473.2 mL. So a dry pint is more like 2.33 cups.

Anyway, most berry like fruits (including grapes and grape tomatoes) are approximately 12 oz (0.75 lb) per dry pint, 1.5 lb per dry quart.
