Its simple but you need the width of the material you are going to be working with.

LINEAR METRES OF MATERIAL REQUIRED(LM) = AREA OF JOB(A) / WIDTH OF MATERIAL REQUIRED(W)

    For example:
    I have a room 6 x 5 metres so the Area = 30 m2
I want to lay timber floorboard planks and their WIDTH per floorboard plank is 0.25 metres.
    LM=A/W = 30/0.25 = 120
Therefore I will need 120 linear metres of the 0.25mtr wide planks.

        A wallpaper roll has 10.05*0.51=5.1255 meter .
350/5.1255=68.2 .You need 69 wallpaper rolls.

in order to convert linear meters to square meters one should know also the width of the material.

Pls help, I have a 130sq metres of rooms to lay a hardwood timber flooring.

Could you please let me know how much in linear metres I'll be needing for any the following timber sizes?

                1) Timber size - 130 wide
                2) Timber size - 90 wide
                3) Timber size - 80 wide

I assume those widths are in millimeters. Express in meters and divide area by width
                  130 m/0.13 m = 1000 m
                  130 m/0.09 m = 1445 m
                  130 m/0.08 m = 1625 m

This makes no allowance for scrap from cutting pieces to fit and having the remainder too small to use. Allow around 10% extra on all amounts.

                              Each piece is 0.6 m x 0.6 m = 0.36 m
                              164.4 m/0.36 m = 457 pieces.
This ignores scrap from cutting pieces to fit at edges of room. It is usual to allow 10% for scrap, so 503 pieces.
