    Hello,

    Please help how do I calculate Current (Amps) in a 3 phase circuit with 6.4KW 400V supply.

    for a three phase circuit,
    Current (3 phases):
    I = P / √3 Vl×cos φ
    or
    I = P / 3 Vp×cos φ

    P = power (watts), I = current (amperes), Vl = line voltage (volts), Vp = phase voltage (volts), φ = power factor angle between voltage and amperage

    Translated:
    Current = Watts / √3 Line Voltage × cos Power Factor Angle
    Or
    Current = Watts / 3 Phase Voltage × cos Power Factor Angle

        Simplified answer,
        P = V x I x √3
        6,400 W (6.4kW) = 400 x I x 1.732
        I = 9.2 A

          In case of 3 Phase calculation, We can use the formula,

          I = W / ROOT-3 x V x PF

          ie, W = WATTS, ROOT-3 = 1.732, V = VOLT, PF = 0.83

          So,W = 6.4KW = 6400WATTS, V = 400

          By Using the above formula,

          I = 6400 / 1.732 x 380 x 0.83

          = 6400 / 546.272

          = 11.71A

            So,W = 6.4KW = 6400WATTS, V = 400

            I = 6400 / 1.732 x 380 x 0.83

            = 6400 / 546.272

            = 11.71A

              its not 380V for your information, the given voltage is 400V i know what you are trying to say but sorry to say it is 400V.

                For a three phase

                P = 1.73 * I * V * p.f

                I = P / ( 1.73 * V * p.f)

                I = 6400 / ( 1.73 * 400 * 0.8 )

                I = 6400 / 553.6

                I = 11.56 A

                  as we got I now if we wnt to calculate energy consumption can v use
                  E=V*I or sqrt3*V*I or sqrt3*V*I cos phy for three phase syatem

                    if Power is given in KW, then we don't need to use Power Factor (PF) because
                    kW = V x I P.F. x ÷ 1000 and
                    kVA = kW ÷ P.F. so you can calculate as below.

                    P= 6.4KW
                    V= 400V
                    I= ?
                    I (Amp) = P*1000/(√3*400) » 6400/(692.8) = 9.23

                          people trying to make this too complicated.

                          get power used ie 6.4kw = 6400w

                          divide by voltage ie 400v

                          then root 3 this. if you don't have a scientific calculator just devide by 1.732
