  • Need help converting from MPG to GPH?

I'm having trouble converting from Miles per Gallon to Gallons per Hour?

What things do I need to do this and how can I calculate this?

    Thanks for the help!

    Great forum!

    Great forum!
Divide speed (miles per hour) by fuel economy (miles per gallon).

Result is gallons per hour. However, note it varies rather wildly if speed is varying, and it doesn't work when you are stopped at a light.

It probably works ok for average speed and average fuel economy.

Thanks for the input! I appreciate it.

The thing is I do not have vehicle speed.

This vehicle is only idling for a period of time, not moving. I want to find out the gallon per hour it burns.

I have a 317.953 MPG reading, but this number is false since the vehicle is not moving. So I want to convert the reading to GPH. Any ideas?

No. You would have to have a fuel flow sensor, and actually measure the flow rate at idle.
