        Re: square feet

        18 inches * 18 inches = 324 square inches
        16 inches * 16 inches = 256 square inches

        324 square inches / 144 = 2.25 square feet
        256 square inches / 144 = 1.78 square feet

              20 x 20 WHAT? Inches, centimeters, millimeters?

10.8 sq ft looks suspiciously like 1 m². If the tiles are 20 x 20 cm, then a 5 x 5 array or 25 tiles.

Ultimately, you have to include grout width and figure cutting patterns when the size does not yield an integer number of tiles.

                  8" = 2/3 of a foot, so each tile's area is 2/3 x 2/3 = 4/9 ft²
9 tiles will cover 4 sq ft.

                  436.295 ft² x 9 tiles/4 ft² = 982 tiles

                  This ignores two things:
*Grout between the tiles. Instead of using the tile dimension, use the tile-to-tile spacing including grout and repeat. This will give fewer tiles.
*You will have to cut tiles to fit at the edges and you will have some scrap that is too small to fit anything. Allow at least 10% more.

See post #9 regarding scrap and grout, but 16" = 1.25'

                      Roughly 350 ft²/(1.25 ft)² = 224 tiles

Assuming the units on both numbers are feet,
                          8 x 37 = 296 ft²

Ignoring the grout between tiles, 12" = 1 ft
so 12" x 12" tile is 1 sq ft and you need 1740 tiles.

                              18" x 18" tile is 1.5 ft x 1.5 ft = 2.25 sq ft. You need 734.
