  • Linear meters to square meters

I would like to know how to calculate an amount of let's say 2300 linear meters of paper folders into a number of square meters. In other words, How many square meters should I foresee in a room to be able to fit 2300 linear meters of folders ?

    Thank you.

What is the linear meters measuring?

I imagine paper folders as those thin pieces of folded cardboard you put papers in and stick in filing cabinets. No idea what linear meters could be referring to.

We need to know more information.

In its simplest sense, linear meters * width = square meters, but it depends on what you are doing.

              Divide by width.

                I've encountered this measure

File cabinets are often specified by the number of linear meters (or feet) They can hold. It is the useful depth of a drawer multiplied by the number of drawers.

To answer the original question, however, you need the footprint of the file cabinet, and linear measure of its contents. Just as an example, I measured a 4-drawer cabinet. Foot print is about 0.4 m x 0.65 m (0.26 m) and it can hold 4 x 0.53 m (2.12 linear meters)

But I think you would have to have a particular file cabinet in mind. The result would vary with width (does it handle letter, legal, or A4 width material, etc) and number of drawers. For a room, you would also have to plan aisles etc (you have to have room to open the drawers)

Multiply by the width, expressed in meters.
