I have a testing kit for measuring chlorine levels in my water at my turkey breeding farm. It measures in ml/l. My supervisor is only interested in the ppm. How do I convert my ml/l reading to ppm?

Well, since he knows exactly what he wants, he should know which "flavor" of ppm he wants. It can be figured on a weight/weight, weight/volume, volume/volume or mole fraction basis, so four different answers are possible for the same physical solution.

If volume/volume is acceptable, mL/L is parts per thousand, multiply by 1000 for parts per million, as microliters per liter.

Guinness is one million ppm Guiness

Ppm is a concentration of one thing mixed with other things. What are the other things? It is always a ratio of one component to the total, but it can be weight, volume or molar ratios or even weight/volume. But if there is only one component and no mixture, it is 1 million ppm itself.
