  • Re: linear meters to square meters

    A class topic.

We have a room that measures 9.47m x 8.27m. If we carpet the room in Broadloom carpet, we need 21.40 metres. How much carpet do we need in linear metres please?

    The area of the room is 9.47 m x 8.27 m = 78.32 m.

If someone has told you you need 21.40 m, that must already be expressed in linear meters and the carpet roll must be 3.66 m wide (or it is not wall to wall carpet). Linear meters are just the length of the material, where the width is ignored or considered "standard." To know how many linear meters are required to cover an area, you have to know that width. area = length x width.
