  • Acres of dense trees and vegetation converted to CY chipped

I am trying to find a GENERAL conversion factor in order to calculate total cubic yards from acres of trees and vegetation. I am doing some site clearing on approx 4 acres and I need to figure out how many cubic yards of chipped material will be produced during the clearing. I would consider the area to have a high density of trees and vegetation.

    Thanks!!!!!

I don't know whether this helps at all. It is data on a cultivated and managed forest for timber, giving marketable timber and chipped residue at each thinning stage over life. You might get rough ideas from it.

    It's metric. Your 4 acres are 1.6 ha, and 1 m^3 = 1.31 cu yds.

I think the issue is what stage in the life of this forest corresponds to your land.

Your 4 acres is is about 174,000 sq ft. You might stake out a small but representative area, say 1000 - 10000 sq ft, process it, and extrapolate the results to the rest. The result is going to depend very much on the height, diameter, and spacing of trees. If you don't plan to recover timber, I would add its volume to the waste.
