  • NOx ppmV to Grams

Can someone help me with the conversion of 5 ppmv of NOx to grams? My end goal is to determine the tons/year.

    1. You need the total volume of exhaust gas per year, and the temperature and pressure at which it was measured.. Reduce to "normal" conditions of 101.325 kPa and 0 C using Ideal Gas Law.

    2. Multiply it by 5 x 10-6 to get volume of NOx at normal conditions.

    3. At normal conditions, the molar volume of Ideal Gas is 0.022414 m3/mol. Divide the volume from step 2 by this number to get moles of NOx per annum.

    4. Assume NO2 (46 g/mol) is the surrogate for all NOx. Multiply moles of NOx by it to get grams per year. Divide by 106 to get metric tons per annum.
